Felicity Kate Spencer was born in Hong Kong to English parents. The family sailed for England a year and a half later and Felicity Kate grew up in Cheltenham, one hundred miles west of London. As part of a bachelor's degree at the University of Bristol she lived in Paris for a year, teaching, studying art history and doing journalistic translation...all the while drawing and designing greeting cards, theatrical posters and tapestries.
In 1987 she flew West to Aurora, New York to apprentice and design with Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs. In 1991 Felicity married Glenn Miller, a designer/builder, and they make their home in a farmhouse in King Ferry, New York. Miss Elian Grace came in 1996 and Miss Lowry Morgen in 2003. The family is a daily inspiration for Felicity's creations.
Spreading wings for freelance work Felicity designed first with a linen company and then became the sole artist for eight years with Gratitude & Co., a prominent stationery and gift wrap company selling to Kate's Paperie, Neiman Marcus and Anthropologie.
"Felicity" was formed in 2004 of a happy collaboration with marketing director Jeanne Young of Fayetteville, New York. They displayed Felicity's work - described as "elegantly whimsical" - at the Surtex licensing show in May 2005 and secured two licenses with Westminster Fibers and Caspari. Both companies launched products in May 2006 and are sold in fabric, gift ware and department stores across the country and in Europe.
Gypsy "is a tribute to my Romany heritage. My great, great, great Grandmother, Lydia Field, lived in a caravan into her 90s. These designs are a result of my study of caravans and my imaginings of a nomadic life rich with Music, Full Moons and Ups and Downs punctuated with Flowers in fearless colours. Lyrical living is important in any age and so these patterns are for you, the modern Gypsy, on your journey with life… sew away"
